SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) is an asphalt mixture composed of asphalt, fiber stabilizers, mineral powder, and a small amount of fine aggregate to fill the intermittent graded coarse aggregate skeleton gaps. It is formed by sufficient asphalt binder and a relatively stiff asphalt mastic filling the voids formed within the stone-to-stone interlocking structure of the coarse aggregate. As a result, SMA exhibits high-temperature resistance, low-temperature stability, good water stability, excellent durability, and surface functionality (anti-skid, reduced rutting, high smoothness, low noise, and good visibility). SMA pavements have excellent durability, requiring minimal maintenance and offering a long service life, with notable economic and environmental benefits. Additionally, customers may add viscosity modifiers to further enhance the stability of the mixture and the durability of the pavement.
